I’m back! It’s been a while… okay… it’s been a really long time since I’ve posted on here. I’ve lived downtown DSM for over a year now, and I finally grabbed my camera and went out to watch the fireworks tonight. Finally! I had the Hamilton soundtrack playing in my ears… because… well, I can’t get enough since seeing it last week. The songs make for great background music for fireworks!

I try to stop and thank police officers, firefighters, and other men and women in uniform (or wearing something to show they have served or are serving in some way)… and it can be (and usually is) a happy interaction. Yet, almost every time, I get tears in my eyes. I am not exactly sure why. I think it’s mostly a God-thing and I am in awe of their bravery. But at the same time, I honestly can’t imagine signing up for what they do. Not knowing each day what kind of danger they might face. And they continue to suit up every day. For this, I am grateful. I love the way we all come together to celebrate the USA on the 4th of July, but I also get emotional thinking of these men and women. So extremely grateful. Thank a man or women in uniform today.

Thank you to all of the men and women who have served, are serving and will serve one day. I can’t say it enough… I am so grateful for your bravery. You are the true heroes.

Happy 4th of July from “The Greatest City in the World”! (I first knew of this saying thanks to RAYGUN, and now thanks to seeing Hamilton in Des Moines, I am singing it, of course!)
